WHAT IS FIRSTinVT?At FIRSTinVT, we are dedicated to building skills, robots and resilience. The global FIRST robotics program engages youth in challenges and competitions to foster highly skilled problem solvers and communicators. FIRST is the worlds leading youth-service nonprofit advancing STEM education (with over 600,000 kids participating worldwide). In Vermont, we have created FIRSTinVT, a newly forming nonprofit, to bring together the multiple FIRST program levels as one community.
We are hiring a State Coordinator, our first full-time paid position, to help us grow and sustain FIRST programs across the state and build the FIRSTinVT organization. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A STATE COORDINATOR?The FIRSTinVT State Coordinator will help increase the number of FIRST teams and participants. They will collaborate with our Board as we build a new organization and they will coordinate the resources needed to grow and sustain FIRST teams in Vermont. Our ideal candidate is passionate about making experiential, life changing STEM opportunities available to youth across the state.
They are a connector, a capacity builder and an ambitious and results-oriented problem solver. Through strong relationships and organizational skills, they can leverage resources and coordinate efforts to support our programs. They are excited by the challenge of helping a newly forming organization grow and thrive.WHAT ARE THE KEY FOCUS AREAS FOR THIS POSITION? The State Coordinator will help FIRSTinVT achieve its goals by focusing in the following three areas: 1.GROW the number of FIRST teams and participants across the state: ?Advocate to increase awareness of, support for and ultimately expand FIRSTinVT programs throughout the state?Coordinate and collaborate with other organizations to connect and align resources for FIRSTinVT teams?Support program delivery partners (PDPs) as they recruit and onboard new coaches and develop new FIRSTinVT teams?Tell the FIRSTinVT story to expand interest in FIRSTinVT programs 2.SUSTAIN existing teams: ?Coordinate and collaborate with Board, Senior Mentor, PDPs and community to ensure teams and volunteers have the resources, tools and support they need?Collaborate and support scrimmages, workshops and statewide events ?Set up and maintain communication systems so teams can access relevant information3.BUILD FIRSTinVT as a vital organization that has the potential to be a model for New England: ?Manage daily operations of small, non-profit organization?Secure funding (i.e.
grants, industry and community partners) in close collaboration with the Board?Create communications and organizational systems to sustain FIRSTinVT initiatives?Lead monitoring, evaluation and reporting for organization?WHAT ARE THE SKILLS THAT WOULD HELP SOMEONE SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE? ?Passion for providing youth with life changing opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math.?Commitment to gracious professionalism and coopertition.?Coordination, organization and project management skills with the ability to turn a vision into a reality. ?Interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate relationships, listen carefully, amplify voices and navigate complex partnerships to support programmatic goals.?Combination of entrepreneurial and operational skills with the ability to build an organization while creating systems and managing resources to achieve programmatic goals. ?Persuasive and passionate communicator with the ability to connect with and motivate a wide variety of audiences in a wide variety of formats (both written and verbal).
?Diversity, equity and inclusion experience with the ability to reduce barriers, increase access and foster an inclusive environment that brings together diverse perspectives.WHAT IS THE EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD HELP SOMEONE SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE? ?Five or more years experience as a program manager, project manager and/or small non-profit manager or a similar combination of skills and experience is required. ?Experience working in a small, entrepreneurial, growing organization is preferred. ?Experience working with youth, adult volunteers, and/or educators and administrators throughout the state is preferred.
