Position Summary
The Scanning Technician and Lab Assistant, under general supervision, performs basic duties to support the Histology laboratory and Image Analysis team. Routine tasks include washing glassware, cleaning and maintaining instrumentation, ordering, and intake of materials and performs scanning of histology slides maintaining high quality standards to produce high resolution digital images.
Image Analysis Essential Job Functions

- Perform scanning of histology slides to produce high resolution digital images
- Maintain quality control to ensure all images consistently meet Flagship’s high-quality standards
- Other duties and special projects, as assigned
Laboratory Essential Job Functions
- Wash glassware
- Answer phones
- Clean and maintain instrumentation, clean cover tiles
- Receive and track incoming packages, mail outgoing packages
- Maintain chemical inventory and other inventories, as assigned
- Assist laboratory staff with moving equipment, lab organization, etc.
- Read, understand, and comply with laboratory protocols and procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain laboratory block and antibody logs
- Use asset management software to track location of slides
- Perform equipment troubleshooting and maintenance call‐outs
- Other duties and special projects, as assigned
Basic Qualifications
-
- High school diploma or GED
- 0-2 years administrative experience
- Solid computer skills and ability to learn new software applications/systems quickly
- Strong organization skills with a focus on attention to detail and accuracy to ensure high quality standards are consistently met
- Ability to work effectively in a very fast-paced, changing environment, both independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Quick learner with good judgment and problem-solving skills
- An Upbeat attitude and willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher
- College level coursework in life sciences
- Experience with life science equipment and technology
- Knowledge of basic techniques such as reagent dilutions, pipetting, aliquoting, and centrifuging

Typical work environment is primarily in a laboratory setting, where the employee is regularly exposed to laboratory chemicals; occasionally exposed to skin irritations and noise/vibration. The stress level in this position is considered low to moderate.
