Overview
The Bridge Engineer is responsible for reviewing plans, maintenance and production activities for all bridges owned and/or maintained by Florida East Coast Railway (FEC).
Responsibilities
- Survey of site of construction to access suitability
- Design various bridge components by keeping all factors in mind such as expected traffic and soil strength
- Detail plan production, including preparation of blueprints for most functional and cost effective design
- Responsible for estimating entire bridge project
- Effective communication with contractors regarding construction work
- Follow orders of Assistant Chief Engineer - Bridges and Buildings and work under supervision
- Ensure safety standards of bridge and design are strong and durable
- Responsible for ensuring government standards in the design, including materials used and structural elements
- Generate three-dimensional computer models to test efficiency
- Preparation of construction schedule
- Regularly visit construction site for inspection
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public
Qualifications
- Required Experience
Professional Engineer license required.
5 years-experience in the maintenance of railway bridges and possess good understanding of drawbridges, steel, concrete and timber structures as well as culvert inspection and maintenance.
Demonstrates capability to apply relevant knowledge and technical skills to monitor adherence to FEC policies and standards and regulatory requirements.
Capability to develop and manage a project plan/schedule.
Ability to simultaneously manage priorities and ensure delivery of key performance metrics during emergency and non-emergency operations.
Must possess substantial interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively in writing and in-person with all levels of supervisory and non-supervisory employees, contractors, consultants, federal, state and local government entities, and freight railroads.
Supervisory Responsibility
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with FEC policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
