Summary
The Payroll Analyst is responsible for the analysis and audit of payroll processing, reporting for payroll taxes, accounting analysis and other strategic planning activities of an 1,800 employee full cycle. The Payroll Analyst will operate in a timely, accurate and service orientated manner. The Payroll Analyst will be based in Charlotte, NC.
Essential Functions
- Payroll processing, auditing, and reporting – Ensure all mandatory state multi-worksite wage reporting is completed and submitted timely.
- Provide various reports and ad-hoc data requests to Accounting; Human Resources; Tax and Finance as needed.
- Payroll system and data uploads/feeds – Perform assessments of internal controls and work with the Payroll Supervisor and Vice President of HR to increase compliance by developing process improvement recommendations.
- Month-end close process and reporting – Ensure accuracy and 100% completion of items on month-end checklist.
- Ensure the processing of new hires, changes, transfers, promotions, and terminations is accurate and timely in payroll system
- Support Management and employees as customers, and function as a liaison with colleagues in HR, Accounting etc. in a team environment
- Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits, and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations
- Stay current on state and federal tax and other regulatory changes with impact on payroll operations
- Audit W-4s, payroll balance sheets, YTD earnings, etc.
- Communicate actively with Operations, HR, and Accounting to review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data sharing
- Ensure systems are set-up and updated to reflect our current employee base, including wages, benefits, sick and vacation time in line with company policy
- Responsible for creating continuity documentation on payroll processes and training
- Other duties assigned as needed.
Required Education and Experience
Ability to comfortably work in a high-volume environment.
- At least 5 years' experience processing multi-state payroll
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or comparable experience
- Experience on payroll tax at federal, state, and local levels
- Experience using Paycor products
- Salesforce experience a plus
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Attention to detail to ensure all tasks are completed
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment
- System/process literacy
- High sense of urgency
- Computer savvy - Excel, Power Point and Word
- Able to work flexible hours
