Temporary Painter
Summary
Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings, and other structures. This is a temporary position lasting 3 months. Work hours are Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Ensure the appropriate safety and chemical practices are followed.
- Ensure all certification and training is in accordance with the requirements.
- Implement safety standards with Fluor and client Safety.
- Smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool and remove old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting.
- Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty plaster, or other filler.
- Select premixed paints, or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
- Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers.
- Preform sheetrock repair and patching jobs
- Apply paint with cloth, brush, or sponge, to create special effects.
- Erect scaffolding or set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
- Other duties include maintenance and repairs on building/facility systems, structures, equipment and furniture as needed.
Education & Experience
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience commercial or residential painting or completion of apprenticeship program required
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
Employee should be able to:
- Rate information using personal judgment or measurable standards; and work at heights while maintaining balance.
Physically, employee must be able to:
- Tolerate paint fumes;
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift heavy objects (up to 40 pounds);
- See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors;
- Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and feel objects;
- Coordinate well the use of eyes and hands or fingers.
