What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Media Specialist position at Flying Dog Brewery?
Flying Dog Brewery is looking for a Social Media Specialist who will be an integral part of spreading the gospel of Gonzo to the far reaches of the interwebs. Are you a master of memes with a sharp sense of humor, eye for epic images and deep love for delicious craft beer? In the perfect world, this person’s job summary would be represented in an Instagram Story or Tik Tok video but job descriptions are still fairly analog so a block of text will have to do.
Big Picture:
The Social Media Specialist will work within our marketing team to create and execute social media strategies on behalf of the brewery which will include creating original content, maintaining an editorial calendar, developing customer engagement strategies, executing digital advertising campaigns, coordinating product placement with influencers and more. This position’s ultimate goals will be to increase awareness of Flying Dog’s high-quality products and unique history, grow the brewery’s online presence through authentic content that drives loyalty and facilitate remarkable storytelling.
When you’re not showing the world who Flying Dog is through social and digital channels, you’ll work closely with the entire marketing team on strategic brand priorities.

Your Day-to-Day:
Social Strategy & Evaluation –
In partnership with Flying Dog’s marketing leaders, you’ll determine unique content strategies for each social media platform.
Lead implementation of those strategies (daily drafting, scheduling, posting of content), drive content priorities, collaborate on copy/visuals and adhere to the editorial calendar.
Design and deploy social media campaigns to drive engagement and increase awareness.
Create and execute digital advertising campaigns that drive sales.
Monitor industry competitor’s social media platforms to identify opportunities and best practices.
Content Creation –
Work within Flying Dog’s brand guidelines to help create content that builds awareness, affinity, and adoption of brand priorities.
Based on editorial calendar, you’ll work closely with the marketing team to determine content needs and timing.
Execute all of Flying Dog’s photography needs with an understanding for composition, lighting, and exposure. You can tone and edit photos to highlight your desired visual outcomes—and you can do all this on a tight deadline. You have experience photographing products but can just as easily shoot people. You have experience producing images that make consumers stop and then take action, and you can do all of this channeling the Flying Dog brand.
Because our social channels aren’t one size fits all, you’ll collaborate with Flying Dog’s filmmaker to identify the best strategy for video output and our team of designers to identify the best use of graphic treatments.
Participate in brainstorming creative ideas for photos, videos, contests and soliciting UGC in support of beer priorities to engage followers, attract attention and generate interest in the brand.
Community Engagement –
Put on your creative writing pants and be the comedic voice of the brewery when communicating with our audience to answer questions/comments, etc.
Keep tabs on appropriate industry influencers as well as personalities outside of beer who could be impactful to our brand – maintain a database of potential collaborators and coordinate partnerships with various influencers as needed.
Develop creative ways to grow our audience and expand our reach.
Monitor social media daily to identify and address sensitive issues.
Reporting & Analytics –
Deep dive into data with the brewery’s Business Analyst to measure the success of social media campaigns.
Evaluate effectiveness of social media strategies by highlighting top posts, follower growth and other selected metrics on a monthly basis and maintain an ongoing reporting dashboard.
Summarize campaign-specific metrics, when needed.
Prepare and distribute weekly reviews of industry news.
Marketing Strategy & Execution –
As the point person on developing digital content for social media, your visual direction you can help drive campaigns and lead to their success.
You’ll collaborate with the full marketing team to develop strategies and campaigns that build awareness and drive beer sales.
Got what it takes?
Bachelor’s degree in related field, or additional education/certifications in digital media
Demonstrated experience for how to use a variety of social media platforms, tools, and technologies (i.e. Twitter, Facebook ( stories), Instagram ( stories/reels), LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) on behalf of an established brand.
Ability to develop digital content (photos graphics copy) to engage audiences
Be creative & collaborative as well as goal and team oriented
Strong attention to detail
Strong drive to continue to learn and take the initiative in your duties
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Great sense of humor and willingness to participate in team brainstorms, share new ideas, etc.
Ability to be fast on your feet, adapt to change and be flexible
Experience using Facebook Ad manager and Google AdWords
Expert user of social media management tools, such as Sprout Social
A tendency to drink craft beer above all else, a plus
