What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cellar Hand position at Folino Estate Winery?
Do you have a passion for wine and/or making wine? The Cellar Hand is responsible for assisting throughout the winemaking process, including fruit receiving and processing, fermentation management, bottling and assisting with harvesting, if needed.
Responsibilities:
Harvest
- Assist with crushing and fermentation activities in the cellar. There may also be vineyard responsibilities, including scouting of vineyards and vineyard sampling or help picking.
Production
- Assist in fermentation management: punchdowns, pumpovers, additions, racking, barreling down and daily analysis.
- Assist in fruit receiving and processing: cleaning press pad equipment and set up for processing – help ensure equipment is cleaned and put away at the end of the day.
- Will be required to perform tasks on elevated areas including catwalks, ladders and platforms.
Housekeeping
- Assist in the cleanliness of the cellar ensuring all equipment used for processing is clean including tanks, pumps, hoses, fittings, press, de-stemmer, bins, floors, processing areas and lab.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
- Previous experience in a similar position working in a production environment
- Working knowledge of cellar equipment, preferred.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate closely with other members of the winemaking team.
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Requirement to wear PPE and abide by OSHA safety regulations as well as looking out for the safety of other persons in and around the processing area.
