Interior Gardener, Horticulture

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Interior Gardener is responsible for creating and maintaining lush and visually appealing indoor landscapes within the casino and resort premises. This role involves designing, implementing, and caring for interior gardens, plant displays, and decorative foliage to enhance the aesthetic appeal and atmosphere of the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

• Collaborate with the design team to create interior landscaping concepts that complement the overall theme and ambiance of the casino and resort
• Select appropriate plant species, containers, and decorative elements to achieve the desired aesthetic
• Procure and install a variety of plants, flowers, and foliage according to the approved design plans
• Ensure proper placement, spacing, and arrangement of plants to create a visually captivating and harmonious environment
• Water, fertilize, prune, and groom plants to maintain their health and appearance
• Monitor and manage pests and diseases, implementing appropriate treatments when necessary
• Regularly rotate and replace plants as needed to ensure continuous vibrancy and variety
• Monitor and adjust environmental factors such as lighting, humidity, and temperature to create optimal growing conditions for various plant species
• Install and maintain irrigation systems, grow lights, and other equipment as required
• Select and prepare suitable growing mediums (soil, substrates) for different types of plants
• Choose and maintain containers that provide proper drainage and aesthetics
• Work closely with the facilities and maintenance teams to ensure proper care of plants and the overall environment
• Coordinate with other departments for special events or displays requiring unique plant arrangements
• Continuously update and refresh the interior landscaping to reflect seasonal changes and thematic events
• Introduce creative and innovative design elements to enhance the overall guest experience
• Request the procurement of plants, materials, and equipment to the Horticulture Manager
• Maintain accurate records of plant inventory, purchases, and expenses
• Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations, ensuring that plant installations and maintenance do not pose any risks to guests or staff
• Educate staff and guests about the indoor garden features, plant care, and benefits of interior landscaping
• Work in an appropriate non-hazardous manner avoiding self-injury and unsafe work methods 
• Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or equivalent 
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a interior gardener or a related field is required
• Strong understanding of plant species, growth patterns, and care requirements for both ornamental and tropical plants commonly used in indoor environments
• Ability to create visually appealing plant arrangements that align with the resort's theme and overall design
• Ability to use a  variety of manual hand tools 
• Ability to maintain a valid Drivers’ License and clean driving record
• Proficient in plant care techniques, pest and disease management, and environmental control for indoor plants
• Demonstrated ability to create unique and engaging plant displays that enhance the atmosphere of the resort
• Keen eye for detail to ensure precise placement and maintenance of plants
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and educate others about the plants and their care
• Capable of identifying and addressing plant-related issues and challenges
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving plants and equipment
• Physical stamina and dexterity to handle and arrange delicate flowers and plants
• Willingness to adapt to changing design requirements, seasonal shifts, and guest preferences
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to last-minute changes 
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to set clear priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work 
• Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends and holidays 
• Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES    

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Member must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the Member is regularly required to stand and use hands and fingers to handle or utilize objects, tools, or controls. The Member frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision.

The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
