What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal position at Forfeiture Support Associates (FSA)?

Ideal position for applicants interested in the legal field or considering law school. FSA has an immediate opening for a highly motivated individual at the United States Attorneys Office in Portland, ME.

Ideal candidates will have exceptional written and oral communication skills, a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and be a "team-player".

This position is ideal for recent college graduates planning to attend law school in the near future. Successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of on-going cases.

A Paralegal I performs, but is not limited to the following duties :

  • Provide Apprentice examination of legal instruments
  • Review legal instruments (completeness of information, proper execution)
  • Conduct research and obtain additional information related to specific cases
  • Determine correctness of action (per Government regulations, procedures, etc)
  • Research records (to ascertain conditions that might preclude action)
  • Provide assistance on instruments
  • Provide information on instruments
  • Gather facts for cases and routine reports
  • Perform initial review of petitions
  • Verify citations and legal references on legal documents

A Paralegal I must meet the following qualifications :

  • High School Diploma / GED; Four year undergraduate degree preferred
  • Attention to detail and the ability to read and follow directions
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to analyze documents to extract selected information.

This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.
