What are the responsibilities and job description for the Revenue Collector position at Forsyth County (NC)?
Forsyth County's Tax Administration Department has an opening for a Revenue Collector. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to become part of a fast-paced environment working with the citizens of Forsyth County to collect delinquent taxes and other revenues owed to the County. Collection of money owed may include actual garnishment of wages, moneys on deposit or any other funds available to the taxpayer. Collection may also include the actual levy on property of the taxpayer. Tact and courtesy in dealing with the public is essential.
This position will be required at times to go out into the field to work. During the busy season the Revenue Collector will also be required to process payments.A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Considerable knowledge of state law and departmental policies, rules and procedures for collecting taxes and other revenues.
Working knowledge of tax records and sources of information on businesses and property ownership.
Working knowledge of the location of industries, businesses, and residential areas throughout the County.
Ability to deal with the public with diplomacy, tact and effectiveness.
Ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports.
Ability to work independently and with good decisions-making skills.
Ability to obtain certificate of completion for Property Tax Collections course.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.Graduation from high school or GED and at least three years experience in collections work.
Must be bondable and have a valid NC driver's license.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for part of the experience requirement.
Bilingual skills in preferred but not required.Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Serves notices of overdue taxes and collects money due, schedules payment arrangements, keeps records of collections.
Prepares and mails initial letter requesting payment on delinquent accounts, responds to telephone inquiries concerning these accounts.
Secures and researches personal information on delinquent taxpayers such as current address, telephone numbers, place of employment, bank accounts and other assets; contacts taxpayer and requests payments.
Serves garnishments on wages, moneys on deposit or any other funds available to taxpayer.
Levies upon personal property by seizure; sells and distributes proceeds of sale according to property of lien.
Participates in other areas involved in delinquent collections such as collection of certifications from other counties, collection of returned checks, in-rem tax foreclosures, and other collection activities as needed.
Performs related work as required.
