What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrician position at Francis Marion University?
Francis Marion University invites applications for an Electrician who, under general supervision, performs duties requiring a high degree of skill and technical competence in the design, installation, repair and maintenance of electrical power systems, control systems, and alarm systems;
on larger projects may direct a crew of one to several trades craftsmen and other assistants in executing work; performs related duties.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Designs, develops, and installs new systems and systems improvements.
- Designs and builds special purpose electrical and electronic equipment and systems. Calibrates and troubleshoots electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems, equipment and appliances.
- Install, troubleshoots and repairs communications systems
- Assists the Zone Maintenance section with inspections and repairs in other buildings on campus.
- Responds to facilities problems during outside normal working hours as required. May serve on call on a rotating basis.
Performs related duties.
Supervises skilled trades workers performing repairs, maintenance or construction
State Requirement : A high school diploma and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
FMU Preferences : High school education with specialized electrical / electronic training. Additional education and training in electrical work would be helpful.
Three to five years’ experience in applicable work in the trade. Must be able to read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.
Must be able to see well enough to read chemical labels accurately in various lighting conditions and to operate equipment safely at normal speeds of production.
Must be able to hear well enough to operate equipment safely while being aware of subtle sound cues from other traffic and from equipment being operated.

Salary : $ 40,407
Normal Working Hours : 9 : 00 am 5 : 00 pm Monday-Friday. 30-minute lunch. Summer hours will vary.
