What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutritionist III - WIC position at Franklin County (NC)?
Responsible for: operation & directing WIC Program; standards, policies & procedures; ensuring compliance with WIC regulations, program efficiency and effectiveness.
Assesses target populations’ nutritional status, evaluates program, sets program goals, and implements changes in standards, policies, and procedures.
Responsible for writing and submitting annual contract addendum.
Provides basic nutrition services to Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) clients in a local health department. Requires employee to independently complete a program eligibility statement, and a basic nutrition assessment.
Ability to: organize and delegate work; train and supervise staff.
Knowledge of nutritional principles and theory, interpretation of data and counseling skills necessary to affect behavior change and knowledge of breastfeeding.
Knowledge of appropriate community resources for referral.
Coordinate services with community agencies, medical centers, physicians, etc.
Ability to interview and understand the client’s resources and limitations and to provide counseling with respect for individual preference.
General knowledge of accepted nutritional and dietetic principles & practices.
Basic knowledge of foods; nutrition; infant and child development.
Ability to: engage with clients; correct and assimilate information; communicate and be persuasive.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition, public health nutrition, or dietetics and 3 years of program administration or supervisory experience plus ADA registration eligibility or master’s in public health nutrition or nutrition and two years of program administration or supervisory experience plus ADA registration eligibility; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Equivalent Training and Experience: No training or experience can be substituted for formal education. Formal Nutritionist education is a prerequisite for this position and experience is in addition to education.
Additional Training/Experience: State approved breastfeeding educator course. Up to date on breastfeeding knowledge, CLIA approved in house training and monitoring to perform hemoglobin’s. Work experience as a Nutritionist II is essential for this position.
Possession of a valid NC driver's license upon hire.
Required Immunizations: The following immunizations required of all employees prior to the first day of employment:
Two step TST (skin test) If you have had a negative TST within the last 12 months, you must have another one completed prior to employment
Proof of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) immunity: You must have documentation of two doses of measles, mumps and rubella given at least 28 days apart or laboratory evidence of immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease
Hepatitis B series: Either evidence of 3 doses; signed declination form or lab evidence of immunity
Evidence of T-dap vaccine
Evidence of varicella immunity: You must have documentation of two doses of varicella given at least 28 days apart or a history of varicella or herpes zoster based on physician diagnosis or laboratory evidence of immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease
If working in the lab, must have documented proof of one dose of meningococcal vaccine.
