What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Director position at FREE RANGE GAMES?
We are looking for a design director for a growing design team on an open-world, co-op action adventure that is currently in pre-production. You will work with the creative director, design producer, and design leads to manage the day-to-day of the team's designers and engineering resources. You will also get in Unreal to craft systems and gameplay moments as examples. You will have oversight and accountability for developing the team and design methodologies.
Responsibilities:
- Task assignments based on the current project goals for both the internal design team and external co-dev partners.
- Solve game mode and session issues on a game with a deep story, but also MP session based needs.
- Balance needs between core mechanics, world layout, systems, and economy.
- Level up junior designers.
- Establish best practices for design briefs, director reviews, and blue prints.
- Sieve and balance the ideas of a super creative team with development realities.
Qualifications:
- Led a design team on a shipped video game.
- 10 years working on mid-sized to large teams.
- Broad knowledge of current action games.
- Ability to teach new concepts to others.
- Familiarity with the big video games of the last decade.
- Experience with agile, breadth-first development.
