Please note: This position has the possibility to work remotely up to 100% of the time. The position will require occasional travel to the Phoenix corporate offices and/or site locations. This position may be performed anywhere in the U.S. except California, New Hampshire, Michigan, Illinois and New York. Additional states may be excluded from remote work based on business factors. Should the position shift to in-office work in the future, the company will offer relocation benefits at that time should the position meet the established eligibility for these benefits.
Description
Works under limited supervision executing both long-term strategies and daily decisions for Freeport-McMoRan’s North American electrical wholesale market operations. Manage a team comprised of internal direct reports and outside services providers. This leadership role is responsible for all aspects of strategy development, analysis, systems integration, and energy risk management of the wholesale portfolio.
- Work on a wide variety of energy markets issues including systems integration, contracting for services and commodities, settlements, and regulatory issues.
- Work with operating sites and generators to implement processes that comply with evolving electrical power markets
- Optimize electrical supplies ensuring deliverability, cost competitiveness, and aggressive decarbonization.
- Work closely with service providers, energy providers, utilities, and regional transmission organizations to advance strategies that promote value to end-use customers and meet company’s sustainability and risk preferences.
- Oversee consultants and contractors engaged in performing services or studies related to systems integration, transmission services, generation mix and deliverability, or load scheduling and optimization.
- Contribute to budget preparation, risk mitigation strategies, and monitor/report performance for wholesale electricity operations and markets.
- Review and/or develop scopes of work for potential projects and opportunities within the company.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering or science discipline and eight (8) years of related experience, including supervisory/lead experience, OR
- Master's degree in an appropriate engineering, science, or business discipline and six (6) years of related experience, including supervisory/lead experience
- Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
- Broad knowledge of the principles and practices withing the wholesale electric markets, energy marketing operations, and integrating supplies of renewable energy resources.
- Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written, including the ability to actively listen and to adapt behavior and communication style based upon the audience
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Skill in following safety practices, and recognizing, controlling and/or eliminating hazards
- Ability to build trust and credibility with leadership/contractors and establish common goals and expectations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in regional transmission organizations or independent system operators, including experience with western energy imbalance market
- Experience with system reliability operations and/or NERC operator certification
- Experience managing energy trading desks and/or power scheduling operations
Criteria/Conditions:
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
