The Human Resources (HR) function is to provide support to the organization, primarily through supervisors/managers, towards the goal of maintaining a productive, engaged and satisfying work environment aligned with Fresh Express strategy.
The role is responsible for development, implementation and management of policies and programs covering employment, compensation, benefits, employee relations, recruiting and retention and compliance with applicable federal, state and local employment laws.
The HR Manager provides guidance to supervisors, managers and executives in administration of employment matters. The HR Manager is a member of the Fresh Express management team.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews and updates the company Succession Plans, enabling the company to focus development to support the future
- Maintain Employee Handbook
- Sources and performs initial screening of candidates for entry level, technical and professional positions
- Provides managers and supervisors with guidance in employee mentoring, coaching, and development
- Partners with management team members in the development and implementation of various employment programs, HR policies and procedures
- Facilitates or coordinates with outside vendors to develop and deliver ongoing employee training and development programs
- Partners with Controller to complete the annual renewal process for all employee benefits insurance programs and works to control rising health insurance cost while maintaining benefit levels for all employees
- Performs benefits administration to include change reporting, approving invoices for payment, communicating benefit information to employees
- Ensures compliance with all federal and state employment laws and regulations
- Maintains all employee data and human resources records and compiles reports as required or necessary
- Identifies new approaches and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the HR department and services performed
- Coordinates and monitors the annual performance development review process and provides managers with guidance and assistance in preparing and administering performance reviews
- Ensures consistent application of policies and disciplinary procedures
- Administers all facets of the separation process including final disciplinary actions, exit interviews, COBRA administration
- Maintains current job descriptions for all positions
- Responsible for communicating all approved payroll changes to the finance department
- Conducts annual labor market analysis to recommend potential market pay adjustments
- Completes annual staffing budgets and prepares departmental budgets for labor and benefit costs
- Assisting the site management team to ensure staff are adequately trained and coordinating training requirements for the site
- Ensuring that all training records are maintained
- Supporting departments to ensure KPI's are managed, administered and achieved through coaching and motivational techniques
- Assures compliance with all required reporting/administrative efforts for the 401-K Defined Contribution Savings Plan
- Works together with the HR team to support Fresh Express Group activities
- Employees have a legal duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by what they do at work
- Act in the best interest of Fresh Express at all times
- All other duties as assigned and or customary
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
- Skilled in coaching and mediating with employees and managers through complex, issues and situations
- Strong group facilitation and leadership skills
- Ability to effectively communicate at all levels both orally and in writing
- The ability to review and analyze data and offer recommendation to effectively resolve problems or issues
- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to use various spreadsheets, word-processing and database computer software
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred but comparable experience will be substituted
- PHR or SPHR certification with 3 years HR management experience required ideally within a similar sector
