Description

Under general supervision of the Program Coordinator or Program Manager, the Peer Specialist will be a Certified Peer Specialist and this position is designated for a person who identifies as having a lived experience with mental health recovery and/or recovery from substance use, and is willing to use and share his or her personal, practical experience, knowledge, and first-hand insight to benefit the team and its clients. Under the supervisor of the Program Manager or Program Coordinator, the peer specialist engages in non-directive and supportive relationships that promote empowerment and self-learning; provides peer counseling and consultation to individual clients, families, and team members; acts as a liaison with community resources; carries out rehabilitation and support functions; and assists in substance abuse services, education, support and consultation to families, and crisis intervention under the clinical supervision of the Program Manager. Services are provided based on Recovery tenets and are aimed to promote self-determination and the overall health and well-being of persons served.

This is a non-exempt, union position with a minimum-starting wage of $15.50 per hour.  Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications: The Peer Support Specialist must meets local standards for certification as a peer specialist OR if peer certification is unavailable locally, minimum qualifications include the following: (1) self-identifies as an individual with a serious mental illness who is currently or formerly a recipient of mental health services; (2) Is in the process of his/her own recovery; and (3) has successfully completed training in wellness management and recovery interventions.

Valid Ohio driver’s license with less than six points and proof of automobile insurance, adhering to the minimum requirements of Ohio’s Financial Responsibility Act.
