Land Development Purchasing Manager

Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager to oversee our procurement processes and ensure the timely acquisition of materials and supplies for our residential construction projects in San Diego. The Purchasing Manager will play a critical role in managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, and optimizing purchasing strategies to maximize efficiency and minimize costs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in residential construction purchasing, excellent negotiation skills, and a proven ability to drive results in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies to support the needs of residential construction projects.
  • Identify and evaluate potential vendors, negotiate contracts, and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Manage the procurement process from purchase order to delivery, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of materials and supplies.
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and other stakeholders to forecast material requirements and develop procurement plans.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and industry developments to inform purchasing decisions and mitigate risks.
  • Analyze inventory levels, lead times, and supplier performance to optimize inventory management and reduce carrying costs.
  • Oversee the processing of purchase orders, invoices, and payments in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives, value engineering opportunities, and alternative sourcing strategies to achieve budgetary goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and vendor agreements, and prepare reports for management as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in residential construction.
  • Proven track record of negotiating contracts, managing vendor relationships, and achieving cost savings.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and purchasing software/systems.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Certification in purchasing (e.g., Certified Professional in Supply Management, Certified Purchasing Manager) is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
