Fulcrum Environmental Consulting, Inc., an environmental consulting firm is seeking an Industrial Hygienist and Field Lead to add to our team. This new staff member will join Fulcrum as we seek to create healthy environments.
Project tasks include:
- Leading field investigations of the built environment, site environment, and work environment for hazardous including: asbestos, lead, petroleum hydrocarbons, PCBs, mold and bacterial growth, and other contaminants.
- Conducting inspection and monitoring services of contractor's work.
- Evaluating laboratory data for quality and consistency with the sampling purpose and expected outcomes.
- Preparing accurate and succinct written reports, programs and documents
- Ensuring field staff maintain field equipment, air sampling pumps, field monitors, and other associated equipment.
- Developing scopes of work and fee estimates.
- Investing personally and professionally to develop technical expertise and staff leadership.
Responsibilities will include field work activities, accurate documentation, data analysis/data organization, and technical report preparation. Field work is performed in a range of weather conditions and qualified candidates must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record to travel to project sites as needed.
The following are the minimum skills & qualifications for this position:
- Bachelors or Masters in Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Public Health, or similar aligned degree
- At least 3 years of previous experience in hazardous building materials management, indoor air quality investigations, and industrial hygiene evaluations.
- Effective use of IH sampling equipment and media, field monitoring and evaluation tools, etc.
- Experience preparing project work plans, health and safety plans, exposure assessments, etc.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA/worker safety regulations, IAQ standards, and associated state, local, and federal regulations.
- Clarity in written product, strong oral communications, and professional dress and presence.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate projects with co-workers, subcontractors, general contractors, and clients.
- Flexibility to work on a wide variety of projects, tasks and assignments, responding easily to changing priorities.

Successful candidates will acquire the following certifications prior to joining or during their first year:
- AHERA accredited Building Inspector
- AHERA accredited Project Designer
- EPA/Washington State licensed Lead Risk Assessor
- CPR and First Aid training.
- First Aid and CPR
- In-house project leadership training
Addition preferred skills & qualifications:
- Active involvement in the development of successful scopes of work.
- Development of clients and services to existing clients through professional relationships, effective project management, and personal investment in project outcomes.
- Superior technical field craft, including planning, execution, and recordkeeping during completion of investigations, exposure assessments, etc.
Over time we expect that you will develop expertise and recognition as a firm and regional technical expert. As you progress, the complexity and difficulty of projects are expected to increase and your responsibilities for project decisions and leadership can increase as well. We will assist your development with in-house training, online course, and conference attendance.
