Job Summary:
The Department of Chemistry at Furman University invites applications to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the area of inorganic chemistry to begin in August 2023. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry or a closely related field with postdoctoral experience strongly preferred. Primary teaching responsibilities will be inorganic and general chemistry courses, with additional opportunities to teach advanced topics in the area of research specialization, lab-centered major's courses, chemistry for non-majors, and a first-year writing seminar. The standard teaching load is 4-5 courses per academic year. Tenure-track faculty normally devote their summers to research with students and do not teach.
Job Description:
The successful candidate must demonstrate commitment to teaching, service, and scholarship. Furman has a strong history of excellent teaching and mentoring, including a vigorous year-round research program with undergraduate students. Therefore, a faculty member is expected to establish a nationally competitive undergraduate research program. In support of this program, the department maintains state-of-the-art facilities with exceptional instrument holdings. 4) a combined statement of teaching and research philosophy (2 pages max);
5) a diversity statement which discusses how the candidate's teaching, mentoring, and/or service might contribute to a liberal arts university community that includes a commitment to diversity as one of its core values (https://www.furman.edu/diversity-equity-inclusion/) (1 page max);
6) a detailed research plan (4 pages max).
In addition, three letters of reference should be sent directly from the recommenders to chemistry@furman.edu. Review of completed applications will begin on August 29, 2022, but the position will remain open until filled.
