PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

We are seeking a full-time Real Estate Development Accountant to join our team. This role, based in our office, will be reporting to the Accounting Manager. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for financial reporting related to real estate development projects, as well as property accounting. This involves thoroughly tracking and reporting project expenses, budgets, preparing financial statements, and ensuring strict adherence to financial compliance standards throughout the development process. Success in this position requires a strong understanding of real estate development processes, accounting principles, financial analysis and concepts such as Hard & Soft Costs, Sources & Uses, etc. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-setting are essential attributes for thriving in this role. 


I. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

• Monitor project budgets, record income, expenses, capital calls, construction draws. 

• Track and reconcile project costs and record invoices for payment after obtaining required approval. 

• Ensure accurate and timely entries in both Yardi and Quickbooks, including reconciliations and any follow up. 

• Preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements for various real estate related entities, including ad hoc reports from time to time. 

• Timely and accurate preparation of necessary workpapers to auditors and other parties when needed. 

• Examine financials against budgets and collaborate closely with development team to ensure projects stay on track financially. 

• Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures. 

• Communicate effectively with both Accounting and Development teams, assist with other duties as assigned by Accounting Manager. 

• Support financial modeling for new development opportunities. 


II. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: 

• Minimum education required includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a closely related field, demonstrating a solid understanding of job costs, real estate accounting principles, and financial statement preparation. 

• Minimum of five years of experience in real estate development & property/real estate accounting. 

MUST be proficient and have a solid working knowledge/experience with both Quickbooks and Yardi software. 

• Strong Excel skills, additional software knowledge a plus. 

• Solid written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish preferred.
