Futures Inc. is seeking qualified Culinary Assistant/ Direct Support Professional candidates for the Middletown/ West Hartford area! Successful candidates will work with and supervise individuals with developmental challenges. While actively working as a culinary assistant/ direct support professional, you will support the education/culinary programs in place for those individuals.

Job Position: Culinary Assistant/ Direct Support Professional
Reports to: Supervising Manager of Adult Services or designee
Salary: $17.25- $18.04 / hour
Period of Employment: Part Time (Approximately 30 Hours a week)
Qualifications:
- Previous bakery experience preferred
- Previous experience in human services preferred
- Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management
- Strong attention to detail and time management
- Passion for quality, safety and sanitation
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Friendly, energeticattitude
- Team player who will contribute to the positive culture of The Kitchen
- Ability to tolerate standing, walking for extended periods of time (up to 5 hours)
- Ability to lift equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Lifting of kitchen equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs. routinely required. Must be able to communicate clearly and possess the ability to meet multiple job demands in a busy environment. May be required to operate Agency vehicles and transport students/consumers. May be required to lift and/or restrain students/consumers or may be exposed to risk or injury from students/consumers with physically aggressive behavior.
Job Goals: Advance, develop, and monitor the business aspects of The Kitchen. Support students/consumers receiving services from Futures Inc.; establish a consistent management presence for all personnel and activities conducted for The Kitchen; provide administrative support for the Vice President of Social Enterprises. Executive Pastry Chef may interact with and directly accept assignments without additional divisional clearance from the President/CEO or their Designee. These assignments will be generally related to the business aspects of The Kitchen and may be initiated from but are not limited to Finance, Marketing, and Senior Management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Works effectively with and maintains positive relationships with families, students/consumers.
- Follows student/consumer Lesson Plans.
- Participates in individual or group activities with students/consumers.
- Analyzes job requirements, sequences daily tasks, observes and records data, and provides training at The Kitchen at Futures.
- Analyzes daily/ weekly café production needs while using effective time management skills to plan production.
- Maintains product inventory levels and sending order lists for food and supplies.
- Ability to work with the Culinary Director on catering jobs, including but not limited to; food preparation, serving and breakdown of events.
- Ability to operate the Hot Dog Cart when necessary.
- Alerts case managers and supervisor to needs/concerns of consumers.
- Ability to resolve issues with the Culinary Director by keeping them informed as they arise.
- Completes assigned paperwork.
- Communicates with all appropriate parties in a timely manner.
- Recognizes and maintains a safe and healthy environment by following Federal and State health code regulations.
- Ability to display basic knife skills, and teach and model safe knife protocol.
- Performs any other delegated non-instructional responsibilities assigned by the Vice President of Social Enterprises
- Transport assigned client to and from work.
- Work as a 1:1 team with client to produce bakery products.
- Monitor client goals and work with Supervisor to establish appropriate work accommodations to guarantee client success.
- Measure and mix ingredients to produce bakery products including cookies, cakes, pies, pastries etc. using precise methods andstandards.
- Manage the baking environment by monitoring oven temperature and baking times, and evaluating product against standards.
- Meets production expectations.
- Keep work area clean, organized, and properly sanitized.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to team members, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organization skills.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
