Electrician’s Helper
Position : Full time FLSA Status : Non-exempt
Location : Roanoke, VA
Position Summary
Hopkins Lacy, the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) division of Branch Group is seeking an Electrician's Helper. The Electrician’s Helper will be responsible for assisting electrician in installation and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment, and will perform a combination of the tasks listed in Essential Functions.
Essential Functions :
Gather tools and supplies to be used at the work site following instructions
Measures, buts, and bends wire and conduit using ruler and hand tools
Drills holes for wiring using power drill and pulls / pushes wiring through conduit or opening
Traces out short circuits in wiring using knowledge of wiring and test meter
Help with lifting, positions and fastening objects such as switchgear, wiring, conduit, and motors
Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses and light fixtures using hand tools
Maintains tools and equipment for Electrician
Disassembles defective electrical equipment using hand tools
Attend to work assignment instructions or to supervisor’s orders
Exercise critical thinking and reasoning skills
Execute work-place safety regulations
Requirements :
1 to 3 months of prior electrician experience
Driver’s License
Elementary level mathematics and English language skills
Travel
Work Environment
While performing duties on this job, the employee is frequently exposed to various indoor / outdoor climate conditions and temperatures.
They will also be exposed to frequent fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, etc. Noise level exceeding 85 decibels will require hearing protection.
Other hazards might include electrical shock, burns, explosives, radiant energy, mechanical hazards, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
They will need to stand (approximately 60%), walk (approximately 35%), and sit (approximately 5%). The employee will also need to be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear.
The employee will need to be able to carry up to 75lbs, lift up to 100lbs, and move up to 200lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40 hours per week.
