Job Description:
The ISO Machine Operator is responsible for producing high quality commercial roofing products at the Statesboro Plant through accuracy, timeliness and efficiency of all manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate thrives in environments where safety, quality, service and cost are the highest priorities. The Machine Operator will perform various, rotating duties relating to all manufacturing operations, including raw material optimization, controlling scrap, facer unwind, platform / cross cut, multi-blade, pick and place, hooder / footer, foot / panel / flute fill saws, media blaster. He or she will support the managers and all plant staff to meet Statesboro’s operational goals and perform duties as assigned. Employees will contribute to a highly motivated and positive environment.
The Machine Operator reports to the Manufacturing Technology Manager. Under the direction of the Production Manager/Supervisor, the Machine Operator must be familiar with all areas of the foam making process along with any off-line equipment associated with the production line. It is the responsibility of all Operators to operate in a safe manner, and monitor quality of the product we produce through the use of process specifications, Plant RCN, PCN, and online testing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Produce high quality products on a consistent basis
- Generate timely, consistent reports
- Communicate positively with other production operators and leaders
- Assure all activities are performed safely
SCHEDULE
- The ISO Machine Operator schedules are based on business needs
- Normally 12 hour shifts
- Holidays, weekends and other shifts may be required
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve production challenges.
- Basic computer and email (electronic communications) skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, other)
- Familiar with standard manufacturing concepts, practices and procedures.
- Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to read and interpret measurements.
- The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test is administered during GAF’s selection process.
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
- Ability to respond to requests in a professional and timely manner
- Demonstrated intermediate communication and interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Ability to perform detailed testing processes in various process conditions
- Frequent use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of manufacturing equipment and machinery
- Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Machine Operators will rotate job responsibilities and tasks to effectively operate the ISO production line. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving equipment and may work around tanks containing chemicals or raw materials, During seasonal changes, employees may be exposed to varied levels of heat and coldness; the facility environment overall is comfortable.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
- 3 years’ manufacturing experience preferred, preferably in a fast paced, continuous process, environment
- Experience supporting production and business goals.
- Knowledge of manufacturing concepts, safety practices and procedures preferred
- Positive attitude, ability to adapt and contribute to a team is critical.
