Summary
The Director of Asphalt Operations will develop and deploy manufacturing strategies across GAF's Asphalt oxidation operations to include capital, talent, technology and process in a matrixed organization structure. This role will align plant metrics and operational areas of focus to drive profitability and best in class service delivery to the roofing plants. The Director of Asphalt Operations is expected to lead from an outside-in perspective, providing vision, strategy and leadership to achieve and maintain the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, quality, customer satisfaction, cost and creating an inclusive environment for talent to grow and develop.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Champions safety culture with respect to behaviors, processes, and environment; supports the execution of Environmental, Health, and Safety practices and oversees compliance with those practices in partnership with EHS functional area.
- Participate in the development, formulation, and execution of both long and short-range operating plans, policies, programs and objectives for Asphalt Operations oxidation plants. Ensure these manufacturing strategies align with support for overall Operations & Residential objectives.
- Develop and deploy operational standards with input from key stakeholders. Develop processes to support the identification and deployment of these standards across the network.
- Develop network-wide capital plan and facilitate approval requests (AFCE's) as needed; ensure the requested funding is consistent with all project requirements so that the approved amount is not exceeded. Partner with key stakeholders (Asphalt Operations Project Engineers, Corporate Engineering, Plant Engineers, Subject Matter Experts/SME's, etc.) to ensure projects are completed on time and within budgets.
- Drives integration of innovation and continuous improvement into day-to-day manufacturing operations (people, products, and processes).
- Directs process improvement and management of change (MOC) initiatives across Asphalt Operations oxidation plants.
- Responsible for delivering reliable asphalt manufacturing processes. In conjunction with SME's, develop and deploy methods and processes to transition operations from reactive to predictive maintenance.
- Lead manufacturing operations to achieve run-the-business metrics along with successful execution of high priority initiatives
- Maintains knowledge of current best manufacturing practices and regulatory guidances and regulations
- Communicates effectively, builds relationships and actively partners with other business leaders, customers, vendors and Consultants
- Identifies and implements cost saving measures to contribute to profit optimization.
- Collaborates with other leaders across all disciplines to achieve growth targets.
- Leads by example with respect to our vision, values and common purpose and quality standards
- Lead the development and implementation of the annual manufacturing budget and operating plan for respective area of responsibility
- Defines and disseminates annual operating metrics and improvement targets, and delivers and drives budgeted results
- Develops talent for current and future needs of the business. Includes attracting, retaining and transitioning talent within the operations function and throughout the organization
- Actively drive performance management, professional development, and succession planning within the area of responsibility
- Effectively communicates company objectives, changes, and manufacturing performance to all levels of leadership
- Fosters a culture that promotes ethical practices and core values and behaviors
- Ensures compliance with any and all federal, state, and local regulatory agencies/bodies
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or related field
- Advance degree or certification is desirable i.e. MBA, Black Belt, CMfgE, etc.
- 10 years demonstrated manufacturing experience in leading an end to end operational organization. Refinery or Chemical Operation experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in change management within the operations environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of raw materials management, supply chain and capital project management
- A track record of successful cost reduction initiatives
- Excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking, and presentation skills
- Superior leadership and team building skills with a demonstrated track record of leading teams to the achievement of superior results
- Practical knowledge and experience utilizing world class manufacturing techniques
- Solid working knowledge of operational and capital budgeting
- Ability to generate respect and trust from direct and indirect staff as well as vendors, procurement team, customers and external constituencies
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant laws, regulations, codes, guidelines, and administrative best practices related to Building Products industry
- Strong personal integrity and a collaborative style; capable of building and sustaining productive, effective working relationships and highly professional image and presence
- Strong financial and / or accounting acumen, e.g., budgeting, business analysis, etc.
- Proven experience in working effectively within a matrixed environment and building alignment in a cross-functional and team environment
