The Job
Our client is seeking a visionary leader to join our collaborative team as a GIS Manager in Houston, TX. You will serve a key function in managing a diverse GIS project portfolio. You will guide project decisions regarding technical approach, cost implications, and project scheduling. This position will also manage analysis and mapping on a variety of projects for public and private sector clients, particularly for real estate, water resources, and environmental sectors; administer processes, provide support, guidance, and deliverables for the project team; as well as develop, implement, and maintain the GIS standards. This position is also responsible for the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard GIS techniques, procedures, and criteria using independent judgment.
Functions:
- Manage project tasks related to GIS, database design and management, and data visualization
- Perform GIS database development and understand and implement GIS software versions and versioning schemas
- Communicate with project team members and other stakeholders to define data needs, project requirements, and desired outputs
- Provide training for members of the project team on the use of GIS tools
- Supervise GIS and support personnel including evaluating performance, assigning work schedules establishing project priorities and standards, provide technical support on project work
- Provide leadership in the maintenance of existing GIS databases and websites
- Perform regular quality control checks of GIS data and non-spatial databases and ensure data integrity
- Provide leadership and coordination of internal GIS services
- Engage in business development and take responsibility for project execution, and oversight of GIS team members to ensure the highest quality of work is provided
- Provide insight and support to the Real Estate Service department
- Participate in continuing education to stay at the forefront of industry standards
Qualifications:
- 7 or more years of developing GIS strategies that support the organization's goals and objectives
- 3 or more years of training, leading, and mentoring a GIS Team
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the ArcGIS software suite
- Experience developing and implementing standard procedures/best practices
- Experience with software and licensing administration
- Proficient with standard Microsoft Tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Good organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to prioritize competing tasks
- Attentive and approachable. Able to navigate a dynamic and collaborative work environment
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced organization
