Position Summary:
The external communications manager is a communications professional with experience in developing and executing high visibility media relations announcements. The manager will be responsible for promoting and supporting corporate communications efforts through proactive and reactive media opportunities, development and execution of media plans, drafting press releases, editorial content reviews and wire distribution of press releases.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Primarily focused on developing media liaison strategies and compiling written communication for staff / clients / partners / suppliers.
- Responsible for supporting and managing the implementation of corporate communication programmes, writing, editing and distributing all company newsletters according to publication schedule, writing speeches for senior management within the organisation, and supporting the development of press releases, brochures and advertising for corporate and divisions.
- Additional duties include assisting various Gallagher websites with edits and updates, coordinating project development with outside vendors, and managing all media enquiries, including issuing of press releases, responses, facilitation of media interviews and press conferences.
- Manages staff, providing direction, setting goals, and ensuring that overall department goals are attained.
Additional Considerations:
- Manages end-to-end merger & acquisition communication plans and tactics, including working with investor relations and pertinent stakeholders on M&A announcements and securing assets.
- Works with division stakeholders on proactive and reactive media outreach to elevate spokespeople and key messages and build brand awareness.
- Connects and manages media relationships, including editors/reporters from various industry and vertical trade publications, as well as news outlets.
- Develops and/or edits press releases, bylined articles, Q&As and other content as needed.
- Develops creative, compelling and timely media pitches.
- Media monitoring, tracking and reporting.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5 years related experience required.
Desired Skills:
- 7 years related experience.
- Degree major in English, Journalism or Communications preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Strong creative and interpersonal skills.
- Well organized and able to effectively multi-task.
- Manages projects independently and meets deadlines.
