What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Finance Planning and Analysis position at Gallaudet University Hearing and Speech Clinic?
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis assumes the responsibility for the University’s annual budgeting process and special projects; provides financial leadership and strategic support to senior and executive management including preparing financial presentations, industry and peer group comparisons, new business opportunity analysis, and other projects requested by senior management; and leads the analytical engine of the GU to provide insights and regularly contributes to critical decision making.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Operating & Capital Budgets
- Leads the annual operating budget process including engaging with leadership and key budget stakeholders.
- Develops, controls, and manages the budget process utilizing Workday Adaptive Planning.
- Recommends budgetary policies and practices.
- Establishs related budget and financial planning processes, procedures, documentation, and training for GU.
- Supports the annual capital budget process, engage with Facilities and other key stakeholders to ensure critical capital projects are funded.
- Works closely with the Chief Financial Officer and others to allocate resources to the highest priorities.
Multi-Year Financial Forecast
- Leads multi-year financial modeling for GU using Workday Adaptive Planning.
- Engages with stakeholders and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and others to determine key assumptions.
- Forecasts alternative scenarios with full financial statement output and to illustrate financial implications of assumptions, strategy, investments, and initiatives.
Financial Forecasts & Management Reporting
- Prepares and analyzes regular and special reports relating to development and maintenance of GU’s budget, including historical trends, academic performance measures, and the interpretation of data.
- Maintains budgetary oversight of all GU academic and administrative divisions; conveys guidelines to divisions for budget development; and keeps divisions formally apprised of budget performance and anticipated year-end expenditure limitations.
- Develops, manages, or interprets reports and data to make recommendations for revenue, budget or similar department or divisional financial strategies.
Analytics & Decision Support
- Supports GU financial decision making by modeling and creating scenarios to analyze options on key initiatives.
- Assists in the creation of presentations for the Chief Financial Officer as needed.
- Other analytical support as needed.
Leadership
- Hires, trains, motivates, coaches and supervises the team; supervises professional and paraprofessional staff as assigned by the Director; provides on-going feedback to all employees; completes the annual performance evaluations for each regular status and extended temporary staff; sets goals and expectations for each staff; resolves workplace conflicts in a timely manner and seeks support from supervisor, Human Resources, Office of Equal Opportunity Program, or Office of the Ombuds if needed.
- Promotes a safe and healthy work environment; ensures professional development opportunities are provided to staff; and meets regularly with staff through department-wide and individual supervision meetings.

SPECIFICATIONS:
Required Minimum Qualifications (When the candidate’s resume meets these qualifications, it will be screened in.)
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related area.
- A minimum of five years of professional experience in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related area.
- Fluency in American Sign Language.
Preferred Qualifications (While not required, it is an advantage for what the position needs.)
- MBA or relevant graduate degree.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Experience with budgeting, managing budget, forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Experience with working in a higher education institution.
- Experience with Workday Adaptive Planning.

Other Important Information:

Level: 11
