What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutrition Educator position at Galveston County Food Bank?
A Bachelor's Degree is mandatory for this position. This position is great for making a difference in the community by educating others.
The Nutrition Educator will report to the Nutrition Director and work closely with our nutrition team under the Feeding Texas Grant. He or she will be responsible for implementation of SNAP-Ed by means of nutrition classes from pre-approved curriculum as well as assisting with the farmers market and healthy corner store and meal kit projects. Day shift with occasional Saturdays and evenings. Nutrition or education background preferred.
Requirements: Bachelor's Degree. Preferred: Nutrition or Teaching background
Bilingual writing, reading and speaking/Spanish & English. is preferred.
Experience Requirement:

- Proven ability to analyze data & problem solve
- Ability to use Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Canva & other similar programs
- Willingness to embrace cultural competency in working with a diverse set of clients
- Experience in public health and/or community nutrition and nutrition education, including creating age-appropriate materials and programming preferred
- Must pass drug testing and background checks. Must have a driver's license with a clear driving history and current vehicle insurance.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with nutrition classes to various age groups and educational backgrounds
- Provide cooking demonstrations
- Create recipes
- Be a GCFB team member and support the needs of the Feeding Texas grant.
- Provide respect, kindness, and dignity to all our clients, customers, staff and collaborative partners in all that you do.
- Assist with development of short- and long-term plans for each program that assure adherence with program goals.
- Meet reporting requirements and goals for grants
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, bend and lift while at food bank and at agency partner locations.
- Operating small warehouse equipment, climbing ladders, and other warehouse activities may be required at times, but training can be provided. Employee may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work out of an open truck or delivery vehicle.
Working Environment:
The work environment includes office areas as well as warehouse facilities and off-site locations.
