JOB DESCRIPTION
GDS Associates, Inc. has a new opportunity available for an Energy Advisor to work with a best-in-class energy efficiency program. The ideal candidate will be outgoing and dynamic with a general understanding of electric and gas equipment (specifics will be taught). The candidate will be based out of their home office but will spend two or three days a week in the field working with large commercial/industrial customers and Program Allies (contractors). As a liaison for the energy-efficiency program, this independent person will need to be self-motivated and extremely well organized. This person will also be highly skilled with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Location: This is a telecommuting position; however, the selected candidate will need to live in or near Ameren Illinois territory 4 (i.e., Quincy, IL; Alton, IL; Springfield, IL).
Tasks to Perform:
- Field work serving as the liaison for the program to large commercial/industrial customers
- Identify energy efficiency opportunities, calculate energy savings, and influence utility customers to save energy and utilize available incentives to improve their Return on Investment (ROI)
- Perform sector market analysis and provide input in developing/modifying program strategies to meet changing market needs
- Ongoing updates of log of activities
- Conduct on-site energy efficiency assessments, including inspections of pre and post equipment installation conditions
- Make recommendations for program improvements based on customer and Program Ally feedback
- Assist with recruitment of customers and consistently maintain positive customer relationships
- Contribute at weekly meetings and work with Team Members to broadly implement and market the energy efficiency program
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Business/Science and 3 year related experience. High school diploma with an additional 7 years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Related experience is defined as maintenance, project management, energy programs, utility account representation, key account management, or in the energy efficiency industry.
- The candidate should have basic general knowledge of manufacturing operations, budget/justification cycles, large building energy systems, construction practices, and/or the energy efficiency industry.
- Ability to learn and communicate technical information in an easy-to-understand fashion
- Flexibility and ability to multitask in a quickly changing environment
- "Selling" experience will be helpful in some situations
- Ability to drive around the territory – in a dependable personally-owned vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) or rental car
- High-level verbal and written communication skills are a must
- Independent, self-motivated person who efficiently uses time to prioritize and complete tasks
- High-level attention to detail
- Excellent customer-service skills
- Strong skills with Word and Excel (other software knowledge a plus)
- Experience with electric and/or gas business equipment is desirable – lighting, in particular
- Strong business ethics required (punctuality, dependability, professionalism), while at the same time, able to be personable with all types of customers
