The Platform Computing and Networking Systems group defines the architecture and requirements for the modeling and software tools required to operate and configure real-time computing systems. This architect position will be responsible for working with customers and defining these tools.The Aerospace Modeling/Software Tools Architect will provide key technology leadership within the Platform Computing and Networking group and collaborate with engineering and business teams to advance a common platform modeling/software tools architecture/strategy aligned to product roadmaps. They will provide guidance and mentoring as well as expertise in business pursuits and product development.
The Aerospace Modeling/Software Tools Architect position is a senior level position involving advanced technologies, selection, evaluation, and development of aerospace tools, operating systems, computer architectures, working with customers to understand their technology and product needs, architecting new systems, defining, and developing new security technology and products, and working with product development teams to implement them.

Job Description
Technology/Growth Leadership:
Interface with customers, product leaders, and industry to understand software needs and align with internal IR&D investment, product roadmaps, and software technology direction.
Connect with key technology consortiums and committees.
Perform model-based systems design and simulation to evaluate alternate architectures and to automate validation and verification activities to reduce cost of change.
Mentor the technical teams through the implementation of new products.
Lead the deployment of technologies into New Product Introduction (NPI) programs and support the development teams to ensure success.
Execute assigned projects with limited guidance. Assure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
Provide timely communications on project status, needs and significant issues.
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
Drive the development of intellectual property (patents and trademarks) to support the product line.
Assist Sales, Marketing, and Business Leaders in new pursuits.
Propose, lead, and participate in Internal Research and Development (IRAD) programs.
Multi-Generation Technology Plan (MGTP):
Define, communicate, and maintain the Technology Roadmap and align to customer needs, industry trends.
Participate in and influence product area roadmaps.
Develop IR&D plans for software technology development and initiate funding requests.
Development Approach:
Lead the deployment of Model Based Design (MBD) concepts.
Collaborate with program leadership to define architectures, reuse strategies, and cost reduction initiatives including.
Incorporate Product Line Engineering (PLE) practices to maximize reuse.
Select appropriate technologies, processes, and tools that meet product requirements and advance the platform architectures.
Cross Functional Collaboration:
Facilitate communication of technical and business information between functional and product organizations and within the Platform Software group.
Coordinate with functional experts within the development engineering teams to define reusable solutions aligned to overall product roadmaps.
Develop an integrated model-based design approach for product development.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, aeronautics or related technical or scientific field of study from an accredited university or college.
Minimum 10 years' experience in computer software development, software tools, or model-based development.

Ability to work in Grand Rapids, MI or Clearwater, FL
Desired Characteristics:
Application of Model Based Design (MBD) principles to software architecture, requirements, and design of real-time systems
Demonstrated experience with real-time embedded software architecture and design in an avionics environment working within a cross-functional team
Familiarity with Agile Scrum
Solid experience in product development and systems engineering activities
Proven ability to define product solutions which meet customer needs and provide a strong user experience
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Very high business acumen: able to tactfully navigate industry meetings in a way that successfully influences GE outcomes
Highly motivated, clear thinker; ability to operate at both a systems and product level to connect technical decisions to business outcomes
Experience developing system architectures using Model Based Development techniques and tools
Analytical people person with strong influencing skills; values relationships and able to build rapport
Experience with avionics design guidance documents such as RTCA DO-178 and DO-330
Experience with embedded systems
Experience in avionics and aircraft systems
Experience with leading and mentoring a group
Able to communicate directly with senior leadership inside and outside the company.
