What are the responsibilities and job description for the Auxiliary Operator position at GE?
Role Summary:
The Auxiliary Operator will support Lead Operator in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the power plant. Operate auxiliary equipment during normal plant operation, support turbine shutdowns, startups, and washes. Complete operations department routine checks and preventive maintenance.Essential Responsibilities:
As the Auxiliary Operator, you will:- Support Plant Lead Operator on plant operations during assigned shift
- Monitor plant equipment and systems and complete shift checklist
- Assist with plant maintenance permit program (Lockout, hot work, confined space, etc.)
- Input Work Orders into the maintenance management system
- Make necessary adjustments to operational equipment in accordance with procedures
- Complete daily operational logs, forms, and reports
- Perform preventive maintenance per PM work orders
- Analyze plant water chemistry
- Assist Operations, Maintenance, and Electrical departments in corrective maintenance
- Perform all work duties safely and in accordance with company policies
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 4 years progressively responsible experience in power plant, marine, or process plant operations or equivalent
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to climb ladders and stairs
- Able to wear respirator
- Able to enter confined spaces
- Able to work at height
- Background check required prior to hire
- Subject to drug and alcohol screenings during employment
Desired Characteristics:
- Additional college or vocational school coursework desired
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, especially pumps, valves, motors, and other power plant equipment
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Ability to work safely around high voltage equipment
- Ability to maintain rotating shift work schedules including nights, weekends, holidays
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing
