Job Description Summary
The Prototyping Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for planning and building prototypes with sometimes very little formal documentation to start with. In this role, you take direction from engineers and scientists and organize, procure parts, and build prototypes.At GE Aviation in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop building processes, tooling and equipment and purchase components to construct prototypes that meet specification, cost and schedule.
- Experience in multiple manufacturing processes and equipment such as electronics assembly and mechanical component machining.
- Document as necessary on repairs and builds.
- Experience with working with QC on documentation of part nonconformances.
- Work with project managers on following assembly schedules
- Assure that Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies are followed.
- Ensure tooling, fixtures and processes are ESD and EHS compliant.
- Assist in equipment development and capital improvement projects
- Develop processes that improve Technical and Manufacturing Readiness level
- Develop Lab Assistants capabilities growth and development with training
- Lead and effectively interface with Manufacturing, Engineering, Sourcing, Test and Project Management to complete projects meeting quality, cost, and specification goals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience within manufacturing engineering
- A minimum of 3 years of experience within manufacturing engineering

- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a matrixed organization and work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment. Work with outside suppliers.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
- Ability to document, plan, and build and repair prototypes.
