Job Description
Provide technical and resource management for the Inside Machinists (M04) and Outside Machinists (O04) Trades across all areas of the shipyard. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Sponsor a safety conscious environment for the Trades. Ensure Trade practices/processes are safe, and that employees are adequately trained to comply with OSHA and BIW EHS procedures.
- Plan resource requirements and manage solutions to staffing needs through personnel moves, hiring, and loans.
- Maintain an active program of professional and technical development for both salary and hourly trade employees. Identify and resolve skill inadequacies through training and assignments.
- Meet quality, schedule, and cost objectives through sound planning, personnel assignments, training, and regular review of performance metrics.
- Maintain a professional working environment within the trade, including expectation setting, accountability, and resolution of personnel issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure that the labor contract is implemented fairly and consistently in all areas of the shipyard.
- Be visible on the deck-plates to develop relationships with Trade employees and to provide communication and support.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
- Associates or bachelor's degree preferred
- BIW apprentice Graduate preferred.
Required/Preferred Experience
- Five or more years of progressive supervisory/management experience in shipbuilding required, with machinist and machinery experience strongly preferred.
- Sound interpersonal and teamwork skills required, including experience in conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills required.
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills required.
- Excellent problem solving/decision making skills required.
- Ability to obtain a secret clearance required.
- Experience in labor contract administration preferred.
