Position Description:
General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) is looking for an exceptional Network Engineer's to join our team. This role is instrumental in deploying, operating, and scaling high-performance Cisco route/switch and wireless networks, managing Palo Alto Firewalls, remote VPN access, and deploying cloud technologies providing world-class availability, performance, and security.
You'll provide worldwide network support within a small, collaborative team that strives to ensure 99.9% network reliability. This is a hands-on role shaping the future of how GDLS purchases & deploys networking for both employees and partners. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, self-motivated, keeps up on the latest technologies, has good communication skills and wants an opportunity to play a foundational role in delivering outstanding IT support of greatest land based vehicles the warfighter requires.
Position Requirements:
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Collaborate with IT management to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping and service records.
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, load balancers and VPNs
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
- Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, various departments and contractors to secure network products and services.
Operational Management
- Configure firewalls, gateways, VPN's, and load balancers to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling security and business objectives and processes
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed
- Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network routing, firewall, gateway, VPN, and load balancer hardware, software, and connections across multiple locations
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
- Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
- Participate in managing all network security solutions.
- Follow operational requirements such as change control, patch windows, etc.
Position Requirements:
Formal Education & Certification
- Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related is preferred.
- Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- 3 years of experience as a network firewall engineer delivering infrastructure design and operational excellence. Certifications in CISCO, Juniper and/or Palo Alto networking products
Formal Education & Certification
- Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related is preferred.
- Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- 3 years of experience as a network administrator or engineer delivering infrastructure design and operational excellence.
- Certifications in CISCO networking products is preferred
Knowledge & Experience
- Proven experience and success with Cisco router and switch design, implementation, and management.
- Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
- Excellent hands-on technical knowledge of network switch, router, firewall, and management software
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including IPv4, IPv6, Cisco IOS, WWAS, Palo Alto (PAN), Citrix ADC (Netscaler)
- Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Competence with testing software and procedures for voice and data networks (sniffer / port mirroring, etc).
- Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

Work Conditions
- 9/80 work week and on-call availability
- 5% business travel
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Rotational On Call assignment
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
- Inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
- Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as switches, routers and UPS's
