Job Description Hybrid - This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week. Our User Experience team is seeking a talented and passionate Product Designer in the Advanced In-Vehicle space to create world standard, forward thinking, in-vehicle user experiences. As a Product Designer, you will collaborate with the customer, strategists, other designers, user researchers, technologists, and business stakeholders to craft meaningful experiences for our customers through thoughtful design. The ideal candidate will have strong interaction design skills, a portfolio of customer-centered designs, and a passion for designing holistic digital products and experiences for mid-term and longer-term future. Collaboration Skills – You’re a natural collaborator, welcoming ideas from any source and able to build on them to make the work of your team successful. You’re open to feedback, know how to give and receive critique, and how and when to defend design decisions. Comfortable with Ambiguity – You are comfortable working in an environment where problems and solutions are not well defined. You can handle change, shift gears comfortably, and decide and act without knowing the total picture. Self-Driven – You don't wait for the word "go". You start thinking, solving, ideating sketching, communicating and collaborating without hesitation. Responsibilities • Stay abreast of new technologies and interaction paradigms both in the competitive set as well as other industries • Create interaction designs and supporting visuals for in-vehicle displays and controls, while clearly demonstrating customer-centered design principles • Create design deliverables that communicate your work to those responsible for production development including study plans, sketches, logic and flow, interactive prototypes, wireframes, mockups, and user interface specifications • Imaginatively assemble working prototypes where hardware solutions may not yet exist • Work with product owners and key stakeholders to identify opportunities to innovate, implementing them as part of the overall customer experience to get feedback, and identify opportunities to improve the customer experience • Act as a bridge between the work in Advanced UX, UX Strategy and Near-Term Product Design to ensure the vehicles we're designing today can start be to readied for longer term UX plans • As a member of the Innovation Committee, provide support to Near-Term UX teams to help enable their domain-based innovations come to fruition Requirements • 5 years creating user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications across a range of channels (e.g., embedded systems, mobile, web) • BA/BS degree or training in HCI, Human Factors, User-Centered Design, User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, Product Design, or related • Strong portfolio with work samples showcasing expertise in user experience design, visual design, creativity, and innovative design thinking • Experience incorporating user research into the design process • Strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills • Proficient in common design tools like Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Sketch and Figma • Proficient in at least one prototyping tool like Axure or Adobe XD Preferred Qualifications • Automotive experience or knowledge • Android OS and Material Design experience or knowledge • Prototyping experience (software and/or hardware development experience a plus) • Graduate degree or post graduate training in HCI, Human Factors, User-Centered Design, User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, Product Design, or related Be part of something amazing and come work alongside some of the most accomplished minds in the industry.
