Job Description

Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment. Participates in the training, developing and evaluating of hourly team members. Participates in the development of highly effective teams. Leads Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes and serves as resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas. Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements. Maintains awareness of quality standards, and communicates department quality goals, and uses resources to address quality issues. Builds and maintains good working relationships with employees, union and management. Understands and consistently coordinate the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union. Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues. Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping. Motivates, trains and develops employees to successfully perform their jobs applying standardized methods. Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training). Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve efficiency improvements. Coach, guide, counsel and mentor Group Leaders in these responsibilities.

Key Requirements:
  • Supervise team of hourly skilled trades die designers / die engineers.
  • Schedule design reviews with multi-functional teams / customers
  • Ensure consistency to Die Design Standards for all die designs
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • 4-year degree (Technical or Business) or equivalent experience
  • Journeyperson's Certification in Tool & Die, Die Design, or equivalent experience
  • High level of analytical ability
  • High level of problem-solving skills evidenced by past work experiences
  • Well-developed verbal & written communication skills
  • Shown leadership ability or potential
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong project management / leadership experience
  • Understanding of die designs and die function.
  • Understanding of material properties, stresses, strains, thinning.
  • Understanding in the following software: Teamcenter, Unigraphics (UG-NX), SMIRT, Tebis)
  • Tool & Die Proven Experience - 5 plus years
