Job Description

The primary responsibilities of this position are to support all facets of GM's Risk Management and Insurance processes and programs. This includes: (1) Developing the appropriate risk financing/insurance structure utilizing a mix of risk retention and risk transfer strategies; (2) Accumulating and analyzing complex global exposure data, and developing a marketable submission package; (3) Interpreting and supporting the negotiation of complex commercial insurance policies; (4) Allocating, invoicing and collecting insurance premiums and retained exposures from GM's global business units; (5) Managing and resolving insured and self-insured claims; (6) Identifying and implementing contractual risk transfer opportunities; 7) Analyzing contracts to ensure insurance obligations are met. The position is located at the GM World Headquarters, Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan and would be classified as Hybrid meaning a combination of "in the office: and "work from home" work arrangements would be permitted. To qualify as a Hybrid employee, this individual would need to live within 100 miles of GM's Detroit Headquarters
  • Assist in integrating risk management analysis and review of property & casualty risk financing programs with insurance brokers, insurance companies and consultants
  • Gather and interpret complex corporate risk financing data, including updating models to quantify internal and external, site-specific impact of business interruption
  • Analyze internal and external sites' exposure to natural catastrophes and other perils potentially causing loss to property and/or business interruption
  • Prepare & distribute premium allocations for risk financing programs
  • Process invoices for premiums, commissions, fees and services
  • Support the accounting of various risk financing arrangements
  • Assist in developing and/or maintaining insurance policies and procedure manuals
  • Assist in quantifying and resolving first and third-party claims with various insurers
  • Design and implement the appropriate claims handling processes through the collaboration with various internal and external customers
  • Review third party contracts for risk transfer opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with contractual insurance requirements
  • Field and resolve ad-hoc insurance issues of GM's global business units
  • Prepare presentations to various levels of management
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of risk control opportunities
  • Assist with administration and maintenance of IT tools including SharePoint website
  • Process IT application access requests & support semi-annual user access reviews
  • Field and resolve ad-hoc business continuity planning issues with GM's global business units
