Gensler’s Critical Facilities team in Chicago is looking for a multi-talented technical designer/project architect to join our team. We are looking for a candidate with experience in design and delivery of high-tech, new construction architecture projects—whether for national labs, data centers, or other complex designs. You will be a key team member to help expand our presence in Chicago and the region. The ideal candidate will be adept in the design and technical elements of project delivery.
Your Role
As a Gensler Technical Designer , you will collaborate with our Practice Area Leader and Design Directors to develop design solutions as well as coordinate the design through the construction documentation phase of a project. You will be successful because you already know how to translate an architect's sketches and documents into realized 2D/3D models and images and can research artistic and/or technical issues when they arise. What You Will Do
- Collaborate on design projects, including programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development and documentation
- Work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives
- Documentation coordination with consultants (structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustical, accessibility, building envelope, life safety, etc.)
- Resolve complex technical and design issues
- Assist in managing client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination
- Provide project team coordination for the finished plans, specifications, and material selections required for construction
- Participate in the construction administration of projects and review of submittals and finish samples
- Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs
Your Qualifications
- 2-7 years’ experience designing multiple building typologies of varying scale
- Experience in Critical Facilities projects (i.e. data centers, command and control centers, high-performance computing, etc.) or similarly complex projects (i.e. science/labs/national labs, light-industrial/manufacturing, high-tech manufacturing, healthcare, aviation & transportation, etc.) preferred
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Architecture required
- Professional licensure is a plus but not required
- Flexibility to focus on a single client with a variety of project types or multiple projects in various stages of development
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding graphic presentation skills
- Strong Revit, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Microsoft Office experience desired. AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino, Enscape, VRay also beneficial
