Position Summary
The specialty technician will provide safe and appropriate pharmacy services to patients in the outpatient pharmacy according to regulatory guidelines.

Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist:
Transcription of new prescriptions to patient profile
Confirm patient demographics are accurate and insurance information is correct
Ensure correct third party adjudication of specialty medications
Initiate prior authorizations for specialty medications and work with providers on completion
Communicate with nurses and patients about prescription order status and provide updates accordingly
Identify patient foundation assistance and manufacturer copay assistance programs
Communicate copays with patients before ordering medications
Make sure that specialty medications with existing PAR levels are appropriately stocked
Notify patient when medication is available for pickup and/or schedule delivery
Qualifications
Education
- High school graduation and active DC Pharmacy Technician license required
- Two years college training is desirable, Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred.
Experience
- Two years of verified experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail, nursing home, medical center or hospital pharmacy, required. One year of specialty pharmacy experience (preferred)
