Transportation Load Planner

SUMMARY: The Transportation Load Planner builds shipments and optimizes the balance between weight, transit time, and delivery schedules to ensure on time delivery to our customers at the most efficient freight cost.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

·        Utilize software tools and manual processes to route and schedule shipments to ensure optimum cost and service.

·        Manage load changes and rebuild if necessary.

·        Prioritize loads based on customer need, working with the plant on priorities for multi-drop loads

·        Maintain delivery schedules and document customer order and receiving schedules.

·        Collaborates with the transportation coordinator, sales, and receivers on any deliveries that are running late and determines a plan of action for delivery.

·        Communicate with management on loads that do not meet minimum weights.

·        Understand Department of Transportation (DOT) Hours of Service rules/regulations and can interpret driver log hours to avoid delivery issues.

·        Builds shipments with accurate transit times based on customer receiving schedules to ensure on time delivery.

·        Communicate effectively with dispatch/sales/management.

·        Schedule load delivery appointments.

·        Assist management and on call personnel as needed.

·        Serves as a backup for the outside carrier dispatcher and transportation coordinator. Fills in for vacations/time off as needed.

·        Able to collaboratively solve problems when it comes to load weight/customer drop configuration.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will not have supervisory responsibility.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

·        Required

o   Bachelor’s Degree related to Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, Materials Management, OR 4 years of progressively responsible experience in a relevant working environment.

o   1 year of load planning experience

o   Strong computer skills, which includes Microsoft Office Suite

o   Excellent written and verbal communication skills
