Implementation and Instructional Specialist, Center for Innovation in Community Safety - Georgetown University

Job Overview

Georgetown Law's Center for Innovations in Community Safety (CICS) is dedicated to a new vision of community safety, a vision that recognizes the need to take a broad approach to meeting community needs while reducing the harm of current approaches. Partnering with global law firm Sheppard Mullin, CICS has created the Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) Project to prepare officers to successfully intervene to prevent harm and to create a law enforcement culture that supports peer intervention.

The Implementation and Instructional Specialist is primarily responsible for working on Active Bystandership in Law Enforcement (ABLE) Project, which operates at the individual and agency level to create law enforcement cultures of active bystandership. ABLE achieves this by equipping officers with the skills and tools they need to effectively intervene - and accept interventions - to prevent or stop harm, and by establishing a robust, evidence-informed framework to pursue organizational change. Since its inception, ABLE has accepted more than 200 law enforcement agencies across the country into the program.

The Implementation and Instructional Specialist provides implementation and instructional support to ABLE's growing program - providing quality assurance and technical assistance to ABLE agencies to ensure compliance with ABLE standards and adherence to best practices. They also facilitate ABLE's train-the-trainer sessions - both virtually and in-person - to law enforcement agencies accepted into the ABLE Project. Additionally, they work collaboratively with other CICS employees to support the work of CICS as a whole.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the ABLE Project Director, the Implementation and Instructional Specialist has interactions that include:

Close coordination and collaboration with the ABLE Project Director and other ABLE program staff, including contractors, research assistants, fellows, and students
Close coordination and collaboration with ABLE-certified law enforcement agencies
Collaboration with CICS personnel on broader community safety efforts

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
2 years of experience in project management, training or facilitation - law enforcement experience preferred
Exemplary collaborative capacity
Excellent planning, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
Outstanding interpersonal communications skills amongst a diverse set of key stakeholders, including law enforcement officers and civil rights activists
Ability to work independently and proactively manage a significant workload
