Reporting to the Assistant Director of Food Service Operations at GMC's Main Campus in Milledgeville, GA, this position is responsible for managing cafeteria operations and the efforts of all cafeteria personnel during an assigned shift.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- In the absence of the Food Services Director or Asst. Director, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of cafeteria operations to include safety, service, sanitation, meal production, inventory control, personnel management and financial accountability.
- Ensure meals are produced as outlined in the pre-approved menu. Make suitable substitutions as required.
- Ensure cleanliness is maintained throughout all cafeteria spaces in accordance with established standards.
- Ensure all patrons are served high quality meals in a prompt courteous manner. Take appropriate action on customer service complaints. Report all complaints and customer suggestions to the Director or Asst. Director of Food Services.
- Receive, stow, and properly document all deliveries, ensuring stock rotation and accurate invoices. Deliver receipts/documentation for administrative processing.
- Ensure all equipment remains in good, safe, working condition. Report all equipment abnormalities.
- Execute all planned catering events. Take action as required on all short fused requests.
- Ensure cafeteria staffing as required. Call in labor for employee absences or unplanned requirements as required. Reduce labor as work load permits.
- Manage all personnel on the shift to include planning and oversight of periodic breaks and lunch periods. Make work assignments as necessary for effective operations. In the absence of the Director or Asst. Director, discipline employees per established standards and as outlined in the Non-Faculty Employee Handbook.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
- Knowledge of techniques, equipment, and supplies used in preparing meals for a large number of people.
- Knowledge in sanitation and hygiene principals as it relates to food production and cafeteria operations.
- Knowledge in personnel management principals.
- Knowledge in Georgia Military College and State of Georgia employment and personnel policies.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Director or Asst. Director of Food Services assigns work in terms of very general instructions. Work is reviewed for the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include institutional policies and procedures, Georgia Department of Health guidelines, and relevant state and federal laws. These guideline require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: This position consists of varied administrative and supervisory duties.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to manage the operations of the Food Services Department during an assigned shift. Successful performance in this position helps ensure the efficient, safe, effective and profitable operation of the department.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with salespeople, clients, vendors, co-workers, faculty, staff, students, guests, and the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to provide services, motivate personnel, and resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed while sitting, standing or walking, and requires lifting of light and heavy objects and using tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, kitchen, and dining hall.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over all assigned cafeteria personnel during a routine shift including cooks, bakers, prepares, grill workers, servers, cashiers, dishwashers, and other utility workers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of high school or GED equivalent.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations for recipes commonly associated with the completion of high school.
- Sufficient cafeteria and management experience to perform the basic principles relevant to the duties of the position.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to complete the Georgia Department of Human Resources SERVE-SAFE certification course.
- Basic computer skills.
