Job Summary

By fostering cooperation among staff, the University, the community, and regional organizations, the Director will offer a comprehensive vision and ensure the effective execution of daily operations. This role will utilize expertise in biology and environmental science, organization management, fundraising and development, grant proposal composition, public outreach, and innovative thinking. The Director will demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the Garden's objective of honoring the ecological and cultural heritage of the coastal plain. Moreover, they are motivated to cultivate a collaborative and inclusive environment while embracing the multifaceted responsibilities associated with guiding an expanding organization in a thriving region.

The Botanic Garden offers remarkable encounters with the captivating natural and cultural history of the southeastern coastal plain. Spanning 15 acres, the garden boasts a diverse range of botanical wonders. At its core lies an early 20th century farmstead, which serves as a testament to the profound stewardship of its original owners, Dan and Catharine Bland. The Botanic Garden is a sanctuary that invites visitors to immerse themselves in the magnificence of nature while inspiring them to contribute to the preservation and understanding of our ever-changing world.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a vision for the implementation of the Garden's mission and lead implementation to ensure continued growth, financial sustainability, and long-term success
  • Oversee day to day operations, including horticultural efforts, regional education programs, facility rental, marketing, maintenance, staff development, and general administration
  • Work closely with staff to develop specific departmental initiatives
  • Develop and implement an effective strategy for financial stability
  • Create and implement public outreach programs that increase the Garden's impact in the region
  • Develop concrete avenues for community involvement in the growth and development of the Garden
  • Advocate for the Garden across the University, community, and the region


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Master's Degree in a related field (preferably in Botany, Biology, and/or Environmental Sciences)

Required Experience
  • Five (5) or more years leadership experience in garden or similar non-profit management


Proposed Salary

$76,500 - $86,500

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

  • Proven experience planning and executing an organizational vision through both short and long term efforts
  • Evidence of proficiency in financial operations, fundraising, grant writing, and donor development

  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
  • Established excellence in writing and verbal communication
