Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated ESRI ArcGIS software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, Portal) systems to produce, display, and analyze spatial data for reporting, analysis, presentations, and data visualization purposes;
- Designing, developing, and managing project-specific relational database applications using desktop (MS Access) and enterprise (MS SQL Server, EQuIS) database software;
- Developing comprehensive workflows and metadata to automate compilation of data from multiple sources and serve data to maps, reports and other tools;
- Compiling, verifying, analyzing, and reporting large and diverse datasets;
- Designing, developing, and producing data visualization outputs using ArcGIS;Interacting with internal and external providers to coordinate collection and transfer of data to project databases;
- Collection, manipulation, and analysis of databases and GIS data;
- Designing GIS projects using ESRI ArcGIS software (ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap Version 10.x) used to store, visualize, and analyze spatial data;
- Designing and deploying field data collection and mapping applications using ArcGIS Portal, Field Maps, and Survey 123
- Use and understanding of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) equipment for data collection;
- Participation in client-needs analysis; and developing current knowledge of GIS technology and software; and
- Interacting with internal and external clients to support database management and data visualization for environmental engineering, and geoscience projects.
Education and Licensure
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geography, computer science, engineering, or geology. (required)
- Advanced degree in environmental science, geography, computer science, engineering, or geology. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- At least 2 years of technical training and experience in database technology and GIS, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
- Exceptional attention to detail in quantitative work products, written communication, spelling, and grammar. (required)
- Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap 10.x). (required)
- Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Online and Portal for developing web maps and field data collection applications (preferred).
- Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Access, including the ability to write complex formulas and visualize data effectively. (required) . (required)
- Ability to write complex queries and automate routine processes (e.g., VBA and SQL). (preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including the ability to automate processes (preferred).
- Proficiency with EarthSoft’s EQuIS environmental data management platform (preferred)
- Knowledge of server architecture and web technology. (preferred)
- Experience with the front-end processes of collecting field data with various GNSS/GPS units and the process of downloading and compiling the data. (preferred)
- Ability to automate processes using scripts (e.g., Python). (preferred)
- Understanding and use of Graphic Design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). (preferred)
- Direct experience managing environmental, geologic, and geotechnical data collection. (preferred)
- Knowledge of laboratory analytical data verification and validation processes. (preferred)
- Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
- Health & Safety training. (required)
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Based on state and federal requirements, this position may be hourly and overtime-eligible or salaried eligible for straight-time overtime. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.
- Minimum: $64,480/yearly / Maximum: $99,700/yearly (Santa Barbara) (Salaried, exempt)
- Minimum: $26.26/hourly Maximum: $31.00/hour (Santa Barbara) (Non-exempt hourly)
