GEOTEK, a market leader in engineered composite products for the electrical utility industry and other infrastructure, is looking for a Purchasing Manager to join our team!

The Purchasing Manager is a key member of the operations team and is responsible for overall purchasing activities and overall leadership of the purchasing team.  As a manager, the Purchasing Manager will supervise a team of buyers, ensuring that the manufacturing floor is supplied with the necessary materials to ship orders on time to customers, while also meeting purchasing cost standards.  As a leader and technical subject matter expert for purchasing operations, the Purchasing Manager stays abreast of, and implements, industry best practices.  Working with other members of the operations team, the Purchasing Manager will also manage and negotiate with suppliers to ensure that GEOTEK’s standards are met, and that the best price, delivery, and overall supply terms are achieved.  The Purchasing Manager supports, and upon assignment leads, alternate sourcing activities, supplier negotiations, supplier quality audits, and other activities as assigned.  The successful candidate will be an experienced Supply Chain professional and a leader.  They will have a track record of on-time material planning and delivery, purchased price reductions, and re-negotiations towards favorable terms with suppliers.  They will be proactive, detail oriented, agile, with a disposition towards continuous improvement.  Organizational planning, employee development and training, continuous improvement, and fostering a winning, inclusive, and agile culture within the Purchasing department are important aspects and expectations of the Purchasing Manager.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and market-leading company!

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management to the Purchasing Team. Serve as subject matter expert for the Purchasing department in cross-functional projects.
  • Serve as primary contact for, and provide overall management of, established suppliers (domestic and international); Take primary responsibility for escalation and resolution of purchasing related issues.
  • Ensure continuous (24/7/365) manufacturing operations through ownership and management of the Material Resource Planning (MRP) function; Determine necessary order quantities and delivery timing.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of purchased items, balancing financial, operational excellence, and warehouse space priorities.
  • Review and approve quotes, purchase order price, quantities, and terms.
  • Drive cost reduction and material savings without reducing quality or performance.
  • Support Strategic Sourcing activities (domestic and international), including identification and development of new suppliers for materials including metal/sheet metal, weldments, castings (ferrous and non-ferrous), injection molded polymers, composite resin system constituents (bulk resin, catalysts, fillers, etc.), and fiberglass reinforcement (glass fiber roving’s, mats, etc.).
  • Support Quality, including ISO audits, supplier audits, and Supplier Corrective Action Response (SCAR) activities.
  • Measure supplier performance through supplier scorecard.
  • Drive employee training and development; Ensure skillsets, performance, and organization can support current and future business needs.
  • Support alternate sourcing activities to ensure security of supply.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the department; Document and standardize processes and procedures to ensure consistency.
  • Support contract negotiations, as assigned.
  • Support non-manufacturing purchasing requests, including supplies, Maintenance, R&D, and Office, among others.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Four-year bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply chain management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Buyer, Planner/Buyer, and/or Commodity Manager in a manufacturing environment. Track record of increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a leader, supervisor, and/or manager.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems. Macola and/or NetSuite strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with engineering drawings, specifications, Bills of Materials, and other engineering documentation. Experience with engineering change order (ECO) process.
  • Experience buying and managing shelf-life limited constituent chemical materials, such as resin, fillers, and catalyst in truck-load quantities.
  • Experience with buying and managing fabricated sheet metal parts, weldments, castings (e.g aluminum), injection molded components, and associated tooling is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access. Advanced Excel skills are highly desirable.
  • Experience negotiating with suppliers for best overall price, delivery, availability, and terms; Track-record of cost savings of purchased items without reducing quality.
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system, including experience with ISO process audits.
  • Track-record of problem solving and continuous improvement; Formal training/certification in structured problem solving and continuous improvement (e.g. Lean/Six Sigma) is desired.
  • Generally, process oriented with ability to use judgement as to when deviation from the standard process is appropriate.

Physical Work Conditions

  • A majority of the time will be spent at a desk using a computer.
  • While walking on production floor there will be fumes and chemicals. 
  • Office work requires sitting at a desk, using a computer and phone
