Job Summary:
Operates heavy mobile equipment specific to RCD operations area to include but not limited to forklift and telescoping forklift to process and handle Rail car parts material. Unload and load RCD parts and scrap material from incoming sources and load RCD parts and scrap from existing piles onto transport or non-ferrous processing equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for safely operating mobile equipment to include forklift and telescoping forklift in scrap operations.
- Exercises extreme care in picking up and transporting loads, clearing obstacles, and properly positioning lifts to prevent production delays, damage to equipment or property and/or injury to others. Always maintains heightened awareness of surroundings to include pedestrians, mobile equipment, rail traffic, etc.
- General Inspection of RCD parts and scrap for any non-conforming material for quality, grade, and safety purposes. This inspection process is critical to the operation and requires continuous attention to avoid errors and equipment damage.
- Sort and separate scrap and RCD parts according to grade to properly maintain scrap and parts piles for inventory control.
- Watch the operation of surrounding equipment and communicate any problems to responsible personnel.
- Move and inspect material, accurately recording weight, product, parts, and location.
- Perform routine equipment care such as lubrication, greasing, fueling, and cleaning of mobile equipment.
Responsibilities
- Follows all PPE requirements and safety rules/guidelines for all tasks being performed.
- Maintains communication with coworkers through two-way radio and hand signals.
- Work independently and as part of a self-directed team with limited supervision.
- Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Band side frames for shipping.
- Place knuckles and draft gears on pallets and band material to pallets.
- Pull parts from burn field and place in proper processing area.
- Load outbound trucks of parts shipments.
- General housekeeping of RCD area.
- Complete training requirements to step up to the next job grade.
- Assists maintenance and operations personnel as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance care such as lubrication, greasing, fueling, and cleaning of mobile equipment.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic computer and math skills.
1-2 years of mobile equipment, industrial or construction experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push and pull objects.
- Ability to reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged sitting.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet.
- Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
- Ability to tolerate working in areas where noise levels can reach 120 decibels.
