Job Description
The Mold Shop Manager is responsible for keeping the mold equipment repaired and available to go on the Individual Sectioning machines for job changes, items in production, and for sampling. Responsibilities also include: maintenance records of the mold equipment regarding the expected life, proper care and storage of the mold equipment, recording replacement molds and new mold equipment as necessary to sustain the plant production operation along with operating expenses and mold budget expense. To supervise and coordinate the activities of the Mold Repair employees, Machinists, and Mold Shop Technicians in meeting production and operating requirements to meet/exceed location operating goals/efficiencies.
- Directs the work in the shop with all resources available to maintain and improve the quality of the mold equipment for the forming department’s use.
- Assists the forming department with problems related to the mold equipment.
- Coordinates everything regarding mold equipment, samples, new products, and improved mold design.
- Participates in meetings, discussions for improvements, and scheduling issues regarding mold equipment.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of hourly associates engaged in the maintenance, production, and project work in mold repair. Maintains order, discipline, and control of the mold shop facility, equipment and personnel. Develop maintenance plans and activities to ensure meeting production requirements throughout the facility.
- Read and analyze charts, work orders, maintenance, and production schedules in order to meet customer requirements. Set all daily, monthly, preventative maintenance checks.
- Plan and establish maintenance schedules, assignments, to meet production sequences to meet daily goals.
- Order/Inspect parts, and equipment to detect defects or malfunctions. Determine best problem solving solution.
- Ensure safe operation of all equipment and train associates as necessary.
- Ensure all associates adhere to maintenance, production, and processing standards.
- Monitor work order system, parts inventory, using SAP, and other systems.
- Manage new mold builds from vendor selection to mold and part qualification. Complete budgets and requests for funding to upgrade molds.
- Work closely with Quality to maintain part and mold drawings, and assure production parts meet Quality specs.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Associate Degree in Engineering or Business, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 yrs. working in a high speed manufacturing environment as a mold repair/maintenance supervisor.
- Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production equipment and processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Strong background metal machining and glass process.
- Administrative and Management: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, employee relations, leadership techniques, in the coordination of people and resources.
- Mechanical: Knowledge of machines, molds, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- CAD experience for drawing updates and/or understanding of the functionality in CAD to maneuver around.
- Lean background in SMED and VSM for process flow of the mold designs and understanding of concepts.
