What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employee Health Registered Nurse position at Gila Regional Medical Center?
General Description:
The Employee Health Nurse endeavors to promote health and safety to all employees by facilitating an Employee Health Program which includes disease detection, prevention, and treatment; following up employee illnesses and exposures (blood borne pathogens); conducting employee health screenings; and, promoting a safe work environment.
Essential Functions:
- Conducts new on-hire screenings and annual employee health screenings to include health history, and immunization updates.
- Refers employees with identifiable limitations and/or health risks to appropriate resources.
- Promotes educational materials to include hand hygiene, sharps safety, and BBP exposure processes.
- Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure completion of all health screenings. Works closely with Human Resources on employee ADA/FMLA/ and Workers’ Compensation issues.
- Conducts surveillance and follow-up of employee exposures to communicable diseases.
- Plans, implements and conducts annual Flu Vaccine Program.
- Plans and implements other vaccine programs as directed by APIC, OSHA, CDC and other regulatory agencies, to include Tetanus, MMR and Hep B.
- Conducts TB screening for all new employees, all other employees, and volunteers according to the Hospital TB control plan and/or at least annually. Conducts follow-up skin testing for all employee TB exposures.
- Trends employee illnesses/injuries to identify safety and health issues.
- Plans, implements and conducts annual TB and blood borne pathogen training to employees in required departments.
- Provides education on an as needed basis regarding hand washing and isolation practices
- Strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner. Functions within the RN scope of practice.
- Demonstrates awareness of an adherence to legal requirements pertinent to employee health and safety.
- Maintains employee health records.
- Maintains summaries and written reports required for employee illness/injury reporting.
- Provides concise data and tracking of all exposures.
- Conducts new employee orientation in Employee Health as needed.
- Provides initial assessment of employee injuries and assures the proper referrals are made with Workers’ Compensation physician practice.
Education and Training Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. BSN preferred.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Mexico required.
- Current BLS required
- Minimum of 2 year nursing experience in a hospital setting required, 3 years preferred
- Excellent assessment, communication and organizational skills required.
- Knowledge of employee health and ADA/FMLA/WC regulatory issues preferred.
- Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse preferred.
