About the Role:

The Gardener is responsible for supporting the ongoing installation, care, and maintenance of the Golden Door vegetable garden and orchard, including planting, irrigation, organic pest control, and livestock care using organic and biodynamic practices.

Responsibilities:

· Participates in the ongoing development of the vegetable gardens, including planting, seeding, irrigation installation, and upkeep, and applying organic fertilizers and mulches.

· Supports the organic and biodynamic care program for all garden landscapes to include irrigation, feeding, mowing, composting, pruning and propagation.

· Responsible for the care and feeding of garden’s livestock, which includes, chickens and bees.

· Ensures all equipment is properly operated, maintained, and stored.

Requirements and Skills:

· Previous experience with gardening and plant maintenance preferred.

· Minimum 1-3 years of organic gardening experience to include livestock management.

· Computer literate (networked PCs utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook) preferred.

· Flexible and long hours sometimes required.

· Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, stretch, reach, or kneel during the entire shift.

· Must be able to spend extended periods (up to 4 hours at a time) standing, walking, climbing steps or slopes with periodic bending, twisting, and lifting of heavy items such as garden supplies, equipment, etc.

Physical Demands:

· Frequent or occasional need to perform the following physical activities: reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting, and climbing. Have frequent need to perform standing and walking activities related to inspecting property.

· Constant need to perform the following physical activities: grasping, turning, finger dexterity.

· Frequently needs to stand for long periods of time.

· Lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs. frequently and 25 lbs. occasionally.

· Vision requirements: constant need to view small print. Frequent need to see small details and things clearly beyond arms’ reach.

· Hearing requirements: constant need to speak on telephone and/or two-way radio, respond to public, and converse with staff. Ability to hear fire alarms and emergency equipment.
