Job Summary
Deli employees at Golden Gate Petroleum, Inc. are courteous, customer-focused team members who are committed to providing customers with the excellent service. Deli clerks assist customers by recommending menu items, placing orders, preparing food, and responding to customers inquiries and requests. They maintain clean work areas, update displays, and inform customers about specials and promotions.
Essential Functions
Provide a positive customer experience by delivering friendly and polite service.
Engage with customers regarding orders, comments, and complaints.
Record purchases on register by scanning items, ensuring proper pricing.
Prepare orders, following predetermined recipes, including measuring, slicing, weighing, and mixing ingredients as necessary.
Ensure freshness of perishables and maintain food safety and sanitation standards established by the company and other regulatory agencies.
Operate large-volume cooking equipment, such as grills, deep fryers, and/or griddles, while using appropriate gear and practicing proper safety procedures.
Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes to keep equipment and facilities in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Properly verify and record safety checks in accordance with company policy.
Educate and upsell customers on product offerings to increase sales.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Excellent customer service skills.
Strong communication, time management and organizational skills.
Ability to learn and follow food handling and sanitation requirements.
Ability to work well with others and be an effective team member.
May need to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Some locations may only hire 21 and over.
Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience
Food preparation and kitchen experience is preferred.
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Food Handlers permit is a plus.
Successful completion of on-the-job-training.

Physical Job Requirements
This position requires the ability to remain in a standing, stationary position for more than half of the time.
The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) up to 50 lbs.
The person in this position may need to move about the store kitchen more than half the time.
This position operates machinery and/or equipment that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists (ex: typing, sweeping, slicing deli meat, operating the Point of Sale system, etc.) for a major portion of the time.
This position is exposed to hazardous/chemical materials more than half the time.
